I originally had this site under the domain gm4slv.org.uk, but last year, during the phase I was going through of wanting to revert my amateur radio activity back to my original G4SLV callsign, following the OFCOM rule changes, I took out a new domain g4slv.info.
I stopped using gm4slv.org.uk and started using g4slv.info. I also took out the domain g4slv.cloud for my other VPS that I obtained to run gopher and to be a test-bed for a few things that would leave my main wiki/blog/website un-harmed.
I also changed all my Linux/FreeBSD box usernames from gm4slv → g4slv
Recently I realized that I preferred using GM4SLV on the air - so much of my radio life has been spent with GM4SLV, and the few people I've got any recent involvement with in radio know me as GM4SLV. I switched back to using GM4SLV as my operational callsign on-air and this week I decided to also revert all my various linux/BSD box usernames to gm4slv as well.
This was a little bit more involved than I thought, when I missed changing my membership to the sudo group on one box and then found I couldn't sudo. I couldn't su to root either, and I'd disabled root ssh logins…. got there in the end though.
That left the domain name for my web/wiki/blog server.
I re-activated the dormant registration for gm4slv.org.uk (nobody had claimed it while it was out of my ownership) and obtained a new SSL certificate for the new domain and pointed its DNS record to the VPS hosting the web/wiki/blog.
This VPS was also the DNS host for g4slv.info so I updated g4slv.info DNS record to point this domain to the other VPS (the gopher one, g4slv.cloud) and installed Apache2 purely to hold an single index.html page. This informs anyone visiting g4slv.info that they should update their bookmarks and redirects to gm4slv.org.uk
Job done.
I'll let g4slv.info expire in due course and stick with gm4slv.org.uk from now on.
